====Read it if you have multiple versions of SQL Server installed on a single machine====
Problem:
I have SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008R2, and 2012 installed on a Windows 8.1 box. But in APPs, only the BIDS for SQL Server 2005 and SSDT for SQL Server 2012 showing in APPs. How to make the BIDS shortcuts for SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008R2 as well?
Solution:
(1) The best way is to create a shortcut on the desktop and/or Pin to Start and/or Pin to Task Bar. First, find the devenv.exe file, right click, choose the option Pin to Start and/or Pin to Task Bar. If you know the path to the file, it is easy to create a shortcut on the desktop. In my case, it is at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE
(2) Alternatively, I could create a shortcut at the following location:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2008
But the icon created overlaps with the other one even I delete the overlapped one in APPs. Ugly, right?
(3) SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 share the same BIDS.
